A homeowner in Carlsbad, San Diego gave us a call to repair different parts of her home. These were crucial parts of the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and water heater. Fixing all of these issues would allow our client to live with fully functioning fixtures and appliances throughout her home.
We started in the bathroom, where angle stops for the vanity sink and toilet on the first floor needed to be replaced. Angle stops are small valves that control the water supply from your home’s main water line to the fixtures that they connect to. It is important to replace old or damaged angle stops to prevent leakages or bursts that can cause significant water waste and water damage. We replaced 3 angle stops in the bathroom: 2 for the sink (1 for hot water and 1 for cold water), and 1 for the toilet with a supply line.
We also replaced fill valves for 2 toilets. A fill valve is integral to a toilet; it gets the toilet bowl automatically refilled to the correct water level for the next use. After installing the fill valve, we tested the toilet and confirmed that there were no leaks.
Moving to the kitchen, we replaced the sink drains and garbage disposal, parts that undergo heavy usage in the kitchen. A common household mistake is forgetting to properly dispose of food and grease, washing it down the kitchen sink—especially if it’s equipped with a garbage disposal—and hoping for the best! However, this can lead to issues down the line. Certain types of waste cannot be processed through garbage disposal without causing damage or clogs.
With the kitchen sink drain and garbage disposal ready to make washing dishes a breeze, we moved to the laundry room to streamline the chore of washing clothes. We replaced the hot and cold valves for the washing machine, as the existing valves did not turn at all. Valves can get stuck due to corrosion or accumulated mineral deposits over time.
From the bathroom to the kitchen to the laundry, major appliances and fixtures in our homes rely on the water heater. Our client had a 40 gallon water heater from the year 2000, meaning it was more than 20 years old and needed to be replaced. We removed the old water heater and replaced the gas valve. The gas valve is essential to your water heater, regulating the flow of gas to the burner automatically based on a set point of the water temperature so that the water temperature does dip too low but also does not overheat. We ensured that all upgrades were installed up to code.
