At the end of the day, most of us want a good meal, a warm bath, and a good night’s sleep. But before you tuck yourself and your kids into bed, you need to tuck the dishes into the dishwasher. Washing dirty dishes is one of the many household chores no one wants to lose sleep over.
One homeowner in Pacific Beach gave California Plumbing a call and told us that they were ready to transform the chore of washing dishes into a much more pleasant and efficient experience.
To streamline the workflow of dishwashing, our technician installed a few new fixtures: a kitchen sink faucet, garbage disposal, and air gap.
Kitchen Sink Single-Hole Faucet
It’s important to rinse dishes in the sink to remove food particles before loading the dishwasher. Clearing away the gunk gives way for the power of the detergent and appliance to work effectively on tough residues, giving your dishes the best possible clean without having to run a repeat cycle. This will also reduce the chance of your dishwasher getting clogged while also enhancing its performance longevity.
Our client wished for their kitchen sink to be both modern and functional. We installed a new single-hole faucet, which is a type of faucet featuring a single handle for adjusting the flow and temperature of water, integrated into the spout. A single-hole faucet requires only one point of entry to be installed through the countertop, making it a popular and preferred type of faucet for both structural and aesthetic reasons
Garbage Disposal
It’s important to keep a sink strainer properly fitted in the kitchen sink drain to catch any food scraps and debris. However, if a sink strainer isn’t in place, a garbage disposal can grind up waste, helping it flow through the drain, rather than building up or getting stuck and giving rise to odors, pests, and clogs.
Along with the new garbage disposal, our technician installed a new P-trap, a U-shaped bended pipe that holds a small amount of water in an airtight seal—an essential shield that keeps sewer gasses out of your home. The P-trap was connected to supply lines with a 1.5-inch pipe of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), a material that is known for its lightweight durability and resistance.
Dishwasher Air Gap
The California Plumbing Code makes an air gap requisite for the appropriate use and installation of a garbage disposal and dishwasher. An air gap is a relatively unassuming yet valuable ventilation and hygiene fixture that prevents unclean water from flowing back into the dishwasher and contaminating it.
We installed an air gap and secured its connection to the dishwasher and air gap, ensuring it was correctly positioned on the countertop with the opening directed in appropriate proximity to the kitchen sink to safely catch any potential overflow.
Our technician turned on the dishwasher and sink to confirm that everything worked and flowed with zero leaks. Our client was thrilled with their new dishwashing setup, equipped to make their kitchen chores a breeze!
