With Fourth of July coming up this week, here at California Plumbing SD we want to help you prepare your home for the festivities this holiday brings if you’re hosting in your home! These preventative steps, before and during, are going to help avert any plumbing mishaps whether you have a couple of friends and family over or if you through a big party!
1-Make sure you’re using a licensed and insured plumber!
While it’s nice to save a few bucks here and there in your contracts or agreements made, it’s not worth the liability. Not only is it a higher chance of getting someone who might not always know exactly what they’re doing but they also might not know how to properly and safely fix the issue you or your tenant might be having. Using a licensed and insured plumber can maximize your chances of solving your problem soundly and know you have all your bases covered! Also, it would be best to not make agree to a contract or quote without your plumber inspecting the problem!
2-Proper use and maintenance of kitchen garbage disposal!
Out of sight and out of mind is easily applied when it comes to the garbage disposal! Although, it is a very popular issue with tenants and their maintenance calls. One of the main reasons the disposals clog is due to fats and oils being drained down. A good way to prevent any clogging would be chasing that down with liquid soap detergent and running water. This will help break that fat or oil down and help prevent that clogging. Teaching this to your tenants will help avoid any garbage disposal problem and help rule out the inconvenience for both parties. If this doesn’t solve the problem, we recommend calling your licensed and insured plumber!
3-Keeping the shower drain clog-free!
Very similarly to the kitchen garbage disposal, it’s necessary for your shower drain to be free of any clogged material. The shower drain is extremely prone to clogging with the excess hair flowing down as well as the thick shower products that wash down as well. They tend to create a very “goopy” and thick blockage. A great practice is to have the shower drain snaked by a plumber after a tenant moves out to help avoid any complaints during the next tenant’s stay.
